Red flags that suggest a fake air ambulance

• Vague credentials. They dodge questions about aircraft registration (tail number), FAA Part 135 certificate, or medical staffing qualifications.

• No physical base of operations. Only a PO box or generic contact form.

• Pressure tactics. “Pay now” ultimatums, cash-only demands, or refusal to send a written quote.

• Brokers posing as operators. Middlemen can add fees and hide who’s actually flying.

How to verify a legitimate provider (fast checks)

1. Ask for the FAA certificate number (Part 135 for air carriers) and the aircraft tail number. Verify both match the company name.

2. Confirm medical credentials. Request the flight nurse/paramedic qualifications and who the medical director is.

3. Check accreditation & memberships. CAMTS (where applicable), AAMS membership, and insurance documentation.

4. Get a written estimate. It should itemize base rate, mileage/block time, medical staffing level, ground legs, and international fees if needed.

5. Call references or hospitals. Case managers often know which teams are reliable.
