Mission overview
We completed an Istanbul Toronto air ambulance mission on short notice. The goal was simple: bring an 83-year-old patient with pneumonia home to Toronto safely and quickly.
Timeline and launch
Within hours of confirming details with the family, our clinical escort team boarded a commercial flight to Turkey. After a rest stop in Prague, the crew arrived in Istanbul on Sunday morning.
Bedside handoff and preparation
At the hospital, our team met the patient and his son. We performed a bedside assessment, coordinated records, and secured medications and monitoring. Then, we transferred the patient to the aircraft with continuous supervision.
Route and flight segments
The Istanbul Toronto air ambulance itinerary followed staged segments for safety and crew duty limits: Istanbul → Prague → Iceland → Newfoundland → Toronto. These planned stops allowed clinical checks, fuel, and smooth coordination.
Care during transport
Throughout the journey, clinicians monitored vital signs, managed oxygen, and adjusted therapy as needed. The patient remained comfortable and stable. On arrival, we handed off to the receiving team with a concise medical report.
Outcome
The mission took roughly 48 hours from first call to final handoff. Most importantly, the patient reached Toronto to continue care near family.
